One of the most famous SB’s out there are the NY Pigeons. This black box release also resembles the greyish bird, although the Nike Dunk SB Low Purple Pigeon can be had for a lot less.
These feature an odd pattern on the insole, but there’s otherwise no indication that Nike intended these to be pigeon-inspired. Rather, it is fans of the shoe that attribute that nickname.
I think the greyish tones on the shoe allow you to either go with a light outfit or a dark one. Today for example, I did both with a grey top, white layering tee and some black denim. Conversely, I could have gone with some light denim and the fit would have taken on a different tone that still works. The only thing I would avoid is wearing too much purple with these. Although since minimal purple is used on the shoe, you could probably get away with some purple hits in your outfit.
How Are The Materials on the Nike SB Dunk Low Purple Pigeon?
Decent suede typical of black box SB releases covers the dark grey parts of the shoe. The swoosh seems to use a slightly shorter-haired suede while the light parts of the shoe appear to be nubuck.
Either that, or really short haired suede. Regardless, the shoe is buttery and will make materials fans happy. That light grey is really hard to keep clean though!
How Do The Purple Pigeon SB Dunks Fit?
The Purple Pigeons are very comfortable and fit true to size.
I suppose one could go down a half size, although I feel like for this shoe true size works a little better. The classic dunk shape and black box comfort make these a fun and good looking shoe to wear!
The Purple Pigeons are one of the few “heat” pairs my wife actually wanted. To this day, she still has a pair in size 6.5 that she’s too scared to get messed up! Maybe one day I’ll be able to get her to sport em!
